What to expect after TransPRK?
What to expect after TransPRK?
TransPRK allows a customized treatment tailored to the unique measurements of each individual eye. This results in a high quality vision after recovery. Due to the cornea epithelium being removed in this procedure, it takes a few days for the cornea to heal.
Post Surgery
First 2-4 days
- Immediately after the laser procedure, a high oxygen bandage contact lens will be placed on your eyes to protect your cornea and aid the healing process of the cornea epithelium.
- During the first 1-2 days, you may experience some discomfort and tearing.
- Your vision will be hazy for the first 2-4 days. This is due to the cornea epithelium healing.
- You will be given medication eyedrops (antibiotic, anti-inflammation, lubricants).
- An eye shield will be given to you to use for about 5 days before going to sleep. This is to prevent you from accidentally rubbing your eyes.
Post Surgery
Day 5
- On day 5, the contact lens will be removed at your follow up visit and your cornea will continue to recover.
- After 5 days, the epithelium should be regenerated quite well. By then, your vision should be clear enough to perform most tasks and the discomfort will also subside.
Post Surgery
Day 5 - Day 14
- You will gradually regain your sharp vision. Do not worry if your vision fluctuates for the next 2-3 weeks as it is normal.
- Try to take breaks in between near work to avoid your eyes becoming dry.
- Dry eyes may cause fluctuating vision, so don’t forget to use your lubricant eyedrops as and when your eyes feel dry.
- It is important to adhere to the medication schedule to speed up the healing process and reduce the risk of infection.
Avoid Sports And Wear Your Sunglasses!
You should refrain from sports for 1-2 weeks to avoid sweat from entering your eyes, and avoid water sports for at least one month. For the first 1-2 months, wear sunglasses with UV protection to avoid direct sunlight exposure to your eyes and prevent dust from entering your eyes.
To have a smooth recovery, do follow the post-surgery advice given by your doctor.
